FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
About Leongatha Primary School
On behalf of Leongatha Primary School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our school. Leongatha Primary School’s vision is to foster kindness, curiosity, confidence and inclusion. Our students are lifelong learners who set high expectations, accept challenges and contribute to a global community. We focus on the ‘whole child’, which includes academic, social and emotional development of every student, with a focus on developing critical thinkers and life-long learners. At LPS we focus on building high self-esteem and a culture of high expectations for all learners.
As Principal of Leongatha Primary School, I am proud of the programs that we deliver at our school and the strong partnerships we share with our families to ensure the best opportunities and outcomes for our students. We strongly encourage and value community input and student voice which drives future planning and continual growth and improvement. We believe wellbeing and relationships underpin the success and achievements of our students. We are a Respectful Relationships Lead School which means that we explicitly teach students the importance of positive behaviours and our school values of Being a Learner, Being Respectful and Being Resilient.
We provide specialist programs for Visual and Performing Arts, Physical Education, STEM and Chinese. We show that we value Literacy by having a Librarian who maintains and updates our extensive library which enables all classrooms to have their own personal libraries. We have three staff members who run our Tutoring Program to support students who require literacy support. We prioritise our students’ academic, personal and emotional growth by having a dedicated Wellbeing and Inclusion teacher and Learning Specialist teachers who work with students and teachers across the school providing additional support in these areas. We pride ourselves by offering a range of opportunities for students to engage in such as gardening, cooking, Choir, Hands on Learning and camping programs. We cater for all of our students by having an embedded ‘Support and Extension Program”, which is supported by our dedicated Education Support Staff.
Our students’ health and wellbeing is extremely important to us and to support this we have a Chaplain, a Wellbeing Teacher as well as two trained therapy dogs. Education has changed dramatically over the last decade and the availability and effective use of digital technologies in schools and beyond is fundamental. Secondary schools expect students to have developed a strong foundation in Literacy and Numeracy as well as the use of Digital Technologies and tools. The 21st century skill set and confidence our students have already been developing will be used and extended by our one to one iPad Program where all students receive their own iPad in grade 3 and take it with them when they leave our school at the end of grade 6.
Again, we welcome you to our wonderful learning community, a place alive with energy, enthusiasm and curiosity.
I look forward to meeting you.
