Music at LPS
The Music Department at LPS is always busy! We have regular performance opportunities for all children. We have an alternating performance schedule of Christmas Concert and Musical Production for the whole school. We have a firm basis in music theory and performance techniques in the classroom and ensemble performance opportunities with Junior and Senior Choir, Concert Band and a wide range of instrumental lessons. Every year we participate in the Nationwide Music:Count Us In Initiative. All students explore elements of music through song, dance, movement, drama, and improvisation.
Our junior program focuses on building confidence, music theory and playing music. All children learn to read music and music theory. Everyone participates in performance opportunities regularly and we sing and dance the day away frequently!
In years 3-6 we regularly use music technology for recording and creating our own compositions. Students learn recorder, keyboard, drumming, orff percussion and singing. All children build confidence in music. Children in grade 5 are eligible for our school Concert Band, with 2015 our first performance at the Victorian School Music Festival at Federation Square. We focus on performance techniques and confidence building. We cater to everyone’s interests with Technical and Production team positions for those who shy away from the spotlight.
